Key Points for Quality Control of Firefighting Rescue Air Cushions

Firefighting rescue air cushions play a crucial role in high-rise rescues, absorbing falls and cushioning impacts. Their quality directly affects the safety of both trapped individuals and rescuers. Therefore, comprehensive quality control throughout the entire process, from research and development to production and service maintenance, is the core element to ensure their effective performance in critical moments.

Quality control begins with material selection. The main body of the air cushion primarily uses high-strength synthetic fibers and flame-retardant coatings. These materials must possess excellent tear resistance, puncture resistance, and high-temperature resistance, and meet relevant fire safety standards after flame-retardant testing. During the material selection stage, supplier qualifications and test reports should be verified to avoid using raw materials with insufficient strength or substandard flame-retardant properties, eliminating potential hazards at the source.

Standardized production processes are the guarantee of stable quality. The multi-chamber structure of the air cushion requires precise stitching and heat sealing to ensure reliable sealing at the seams and prevent air leakage. Inspection points should be set at each process stage, with random checks on seam spacing, stitch strength, and airbag shape consistency. Any deviations should be corrected promptly. Especially for critical load-bearing components, reinforced seams and redundant sealing designs should be employed to improve durability.

Performance testing is an essential step in verifying quality. Finished products must undergo impact absorption testing under simulated drop conditions to test the cushioning effect and maximum pressure bearing capacity under different heights and weight loads, ensuring effective protection of the human body within the nominal range. Simultaneously, air pressure holding tests must be conducted to confirm that each air chamber remains stable under set pressure for extended periods, and failure simulation tests must be performed to verify the redundant safety capabilities of independent air chambers. Industry practice routinely involves multiple rounds of sampling inspections before shipment, with a high pass rate required for delivery.

Post-use maintenance and management are also a crucial extension of quality control. Air cushions should be regularly inspected for wear, aging, and damage; the integrity of sealing strips and connectors should be checked; and inflation and pressure holding tests should be performed according to specifications. If excessive pressure drop is found, the cause must be identified and repaired or replaced promptly. The storage environment should be kept dry, away from light, and free from oil and chemicals to prevent material performance degradation. After each use, the air cushion should be cleaned and inspected, and the number of uses and its condition recorded to provide a basis for subsequent dispatching.

Command and supervision during use are also crucial. Operators must be professionally trained, familiar with the air cushion's load-bearing capacity and effective height, and ensure the ground is flat and securely fixed during deployment. They must also maintain uninterrupted communication with the on-site command to prevent improper placement from affecting the cushioning effect.

Quality control of fire rescue air cushions is integrated throughout the entire process of research and development, production, inspection, maintenance, and use. Only through meticulous and rigorous quality control at each stage can this life-saving equipment be entrusted with reliability in times of crisis.
