Tunnel fires are every firefighter's nightmare. When dense smoke cannot be vented, temperatures skyrocket instantly, and anyone trapped inside would not survive for more than a few minutes. During consultations with traffic rescue departments, Taizhou Mingxin Firefighting Technology Co., Ltd. received a repeated insistence: "We need a machine capable of delivering airflow hundreds of meters deep into a tunnel." Consequently, we developed this master of long-distance air delivery.
We affectionately call this YY6.3/5.0-30 Emergency Rescue Ventilator the "Tunnel Pangolin." It boasts a rated airflow volume of up to 30,102 m³/h. This massive airflow-combined with a specially designed air duct-can create a continuous corridor of fresh air within tunnels hundreds of meters in length. In 2023, during a tunnel rescue drill in a southwestern province, this unit was positioned at the tunnel entrance; just 20 minutes later, smoke density deep inside the tunnel had dropped by 70%, allowing rescue personnel-wearing only their protective masks-to safely rush in.
Powerful performance is its defining characteristic. With a rated power output of 6.3 kW and a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 liters, a single full tank allows for two hours of continuous operation. What does "two hours" signify in this context? It is ample time for rescue personnel to penetrate to the deepest reaches of the tunnel, complete their search and rescue missions, and safely extract themselves.
Mingxin's materials engineers invested significant effort into the design of the air duct. We selected duct materials that are simultaneously corrosion-resistant and high-strength. Why? Because the smoke and fumes generated in tunnels contain complex chemical compositions-often rich in acidic substances-that can render ordinary plastics brittle within a mere few months. Our air ducts, however, remain robust and durable even after years of service. Furthermore, high material strength allows for thinner, lighter construction, making the unit effortless to maneuver and transport.
The adjustable-height handle is a small detail, yet it proves remarkably practical. Firefighters of varying heights experience different ergonomic comfort levels when gripping a handle. To address this, we designed a height-adjustable handle system: taller personnel can raise it, while shorter personnel can lower it, ensuring that everyone-regardless of stature-can push the unit comfortably without having to stoop or hunch over.
The foot-operated angle adjustment mechanism is a feature we developed based on insights gleaned from real-world operational scenarios. In the chaos of a fire scene, having to crouch down to manually tighten screws to adjust the angle could easily result in being knocked over by personnel moving behind you. We have therefore redesigned this function to be fully foot-operated. With a simple step of the foot and a lift of the hand, the angle shifts instantly. The operator maintains an upright stance throughout the entire process, keeping their eyes fixed on the fire scene without needing to look down or divert their attention.
The dual-wheel push-and-pull design makes mobility effortless. Featuring two large wheels that ensure solid ground contact-whether on concrete or asphalt-the unit can be easily maneuvered by a single person. When encountering stairs, two people can simply lift the unit; in this scenario, the slightly smaller wheels actually make it easier to clear the steps.
We have equipped this machine with an airflow regulator. This is no mere cosmetic feature. Initially, when expelling smoke, maximum airflow is required-so you simply turn the dial to the max setting. Later, as the smoke dissipates and you need to maintain positive pressure to prevent smoke backflow, you can dial it down slightly. It operates just like the gas pedal in a car: speed up when you need to, and slow down when appropriate.
The noise level registers at 104 decibels. While this sound may reverberate repeatedly within the confines of a tunnel, for rescue personnel, it is the most beautiful sound of all-for it signifies that a continuous, steady stream of fresh air is being pumped into the scene.
